Former President Obama's Beloved Chef Tragically Found Drowned Near Family Estate

The search for Campbell began on Sunday after a fellow paddleboarder reported that he had struggled on the surface and then disappeared underwater. Campbell, 45, from Dumfries, Virginia, had been visiting the Obamas' home on Martha's Vineyard. None of the Obamas were present at the time of his death.

The search was temporarily halted on Sunday but resumed on Monday when state police, using sonar from a boat, located Campbell's body about 100 feet from shore at a depth of about 8 feet. It was noted that Campbell was not wearing a life jacket. His body was recovered from the Edgartown Great Pond on Monday.

The investigation into Campbell's death is being conducted by state police troopers with the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office and Edgartown police. In the wake of the missing persons report, island police and fire officials conducted door-to-door searches and dives late into the night. Firefighters also searched the shoreline of the pond by foot. Edgartown fire chief Alex Schaeffer expressed deep sadness at the outcome of the event but expressed gratitude for the massive effort put forth by local fire rescue members.

Barack and Michelle Obama released a statement mourning the loss of Campbell, whom they considered family. They described him as a creative and passionate man who made their lives brighter.

Campbell had initially worked as a sous chef at the White House, and when the Obamas were preparing to leave, they asked him to stay with them, to which he generously agreed. Campbell is survived by his wife and twin boys.
