Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has called on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch an investigation into Tesla.

In a tweet, Warren expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest arising from Elon Musk's role as CEO of both Tesla and Twitter. She emphasized that Tesla's board has a legal obligation to serve its shareholders and urged the SEC to take action.

Musk, in response, seemed dismissive of Warren's request. He replied, "Not you again. Can we please be friends please please?" In another tweet, he asked, "What's your favorite Halloween outfit?"

Earlier this year, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino as Twitter CEO, stating that she would primarily focus on business operations while he concentrated on product design and new technology.

Warren has been a vocal critic of Musk's acquisition of Twitter. Last year, she tweeted, "This deal is dangerous for our democracy. Billionaires like Elon Musk play by a different set of rules than everyone else, accumulating power for their own gain. We need a wealth tax and strong rules to hold Big Tech accountable."

In December, Warren sent a letter to Tesla board chair Dr. Robyn Denholm, expressing concerns about Musk's Twitter acquisition and its potential impact on Tesla. Warren highlighted the legal questions surrounding conflicts of interest, compliance with labor laws, and misappropriation of corporate resources. She sought clarification on how the board was addressing these issues to evaluate the effectiveness of current laws and law enforcement in this area.

Musk, on the other hand, has not held back in expressing his opinion of Warren. He tweeted, "The United States has definitely been harmed by having her as a senator lol," and has referred to her as "Senator Karen."

Warren's call for an SEC investigation into Tesla reflects her ongoing concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the need for accountability in the tech industry. It remains to be seen how the SEC will respond to her request.
