According to a recent tweet by Twitter Safety, over 99% of the content seen by users and advertisers on the platform is deemed "healthy," with hate speech making up only a minuscule portion of the overall conversation.

However, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York responded to the tweet with a dismissive "lololol."

In the tweet, Twitter Safety stated, "More than 99% of content users and advertisers see on Twitter is healthy. And the reach of hate speech on Twitter continues to represent an extremely small fraction of the overall conversation." The tweet also highlighted Twitter's partnership with Sprinklr, an AI-based model, to measure and reduce hate speech, aiming to create a brand-safe environment for agencies and advertisers. Sprinklr's independent model revealed that the daily English-language hate speech impressions were even lower than Twitter's own estimates.

Sprinklr estimated the average daily number to be 0.003%, compared to Twitter's estimate of 0.012% for the period of January 1, 2023, to May 31, 2023. Additionally, Twitter estimated that hate speech impressions were 30% lower on average compared to the period before the acquisition.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, responded to the tweet by commending the work of the X/Twitter team, showing support for their efforts.

However, Ocasio-Cortez contradicted Twitter's claims, asserting that she is currently experiencing more harassment on the platform than ever before. She stated, "I have never experienced more harassment on this platform than I do now. People now pay to give their harassment more visibility. The de-verification of journalists, civic orgs, and figures has made it impossible to follow conversations. I wish it could be usable again."

Ocasio-Cortez's remarks highlight her personal experience with increased harassment on Twitter and her frustration with the platform's handling of the issue. While Twitter Safety maintains that the majority of content is healthy, the congresswoman's perspective sheds light on the challenges faced by public figures and the need for continued efforts to combat online harassment.
