Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has introduced new legislation that aims to bring transparency to the issue of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

The bill, known as the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Disclosure Act of 2023, has bipartisan support and was added as an amendment to the Senate's defense appropriations package. It is expected to pass, as a similar measure was included in the House's version of the bill.

Schumer's bill would create a UAP Records Collection under the National Archives and Records Administration. All government offices would be required to search their archives for UFO-related information and submit it to the collection.

The bill emphasizes a "presumption of immediate disclosure," meaning that the default position is to make the information public. Any agency seeking to classify data would need approval from a special review board.

The legislation is modeled after the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992, which has led to the release of thousands of documents related to Kennedy's death and subsequent investigations. Schumer hopes that the UAP Disclosure Act will have a similar effect, shedding light on the mysteries surrounding UFOs.

Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican sponsor of the bill, expressed his support, stating, "There is a lot we still don't know about these UAPs, and that is a big problem." Rubio previously claimed that "serious" government officials have "first-hand knowledge" of a top-secret UFO crash-retrieval program run by the Pentagon. However, officials have maintained that the majority of reported UFO sightings can be explained.

Schumer's legislation reflects the growing public interest in UFOs and the desire for more information. He believes that Americans have a right to learn about "technologies of unknown origins, non-human intelligence, and unexplainable phenomena." By opening up government archives, the bill aims to provide answers to the many questions surrounding UFOs.

If the bill becomes law, it will mark a significant step forward in UFO disclosure, potentially leading to the release of previously classified information. The American public will finally have access to government records that could shed light on the existence of extraterrestrial life and the nature of UFO sightings.
