Set photos recently released from the production showcase the company's efforts to prioritize inclusivity.
The images, obtained by British outlet The Daily Mail, offer a glimpse into the new adaptation. One photo features a stunt double portraying Snow White, who will be played by Hispanic actress Rachel Zegler. Another set of photos introduces the characters formerly known as the "seven dwarves," now referred to as "magical creatures."
These new "magical creatures" differ significantly from the animated dwarves of the original Disney film. They represent a range of races, genders, and heights, reflecting Disney's commitment to avoiding stereotypes. The decision to reimagine the dwarves came after criticism from "Game of Thrones" actor Peter Dinklage, who has dwarfism.

The Daily Mail also reported on the state of the production, noting that the photos were taken during filming in Bedfordshire, U.K. The images capture Snow White, portrayed by a stand-in for Zegler, wearing her iconic blue and yellow dress with a red cloak, walking through a picturesque field alongside her fairy tale companions.

Zegler's casting had already sparked controversy, as she is of Colombian and Polish descent, playing a character originally written as a German princess with fair skin. In response to the backlash, Zegler addressed the issue in an interview with Vanity Fair, stating, "People are making jokes about ours being the PC 'Snow White,' where it's like, yeah, it is – because it needed that."

Among the new "magical creatures" depicted in the photos, only one appears to have dwarfism, while the others are portrayed by fully sized men and women of various races. Disney's decision to reconceptualize the dwarves came after Dinklage expressed his outrage during a podcast with actor Marc Maron last year. Dinklage criticized the idea of including dwarves in the film, stating, "Take a step back and look at what you're doing there. It makes no sense to me."
In response to Dinklage's comments, Disney released a statement indicating their commitment to a "different approach" with the dwarves. The company stated, "To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community."
The live-action remake of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" is set to be released in March 2024, and fans are eagerly anticipating this reimagined version of the beloved classic.
