Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and ex-White House adviser Neil Patel have joined forces to establish a new independent media company, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Friday.

The duo is seeking to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to develop the company, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The new outlet will feature extended versions of the free videos that Carlson has been regularly sharing on Elon Musk's Twitter account since his departure from Fox News. However, the primary revenue model for the company will be subscription-based.

Carlson, who hosted the highly popular Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox, has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.

In April, Carlson and Fox News parted ways after the network's parent company, Fox Corp, settled a lawsuit for $787.5 million. The lawsuit alleged that the news network had defamed Dominion Voting Systems by broadcasting false claims of election rigging.

This separation marked the end of Carlson's successful tenure at Fox. In April 2020, his show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, surpassed Hannity as the highest-rated primetime cable show, with an average audience of 4.56 million viewers. In the second quarter of 2020, the show maintained an average audience of 4.33 million viewers, the highest number of viewers for any program in the history of cable news.

According to Mediaite, in October 2022, Carlson was the most-watched host among Democrats in the key 25-54 age demographic across all networks.

Now, Carlson aims to replicate that support in his new venture. In May, he announced on Twitter that he would soon relaunch his show on the social media platform. In June, he released the first episode of his new show, "Tucker on Twitter."

However, Fox News retaliated by notifying Carlson's legal team, claiming that the former prime-time host had violated his contract with the network by launching his own Twitter show, as reported by Axios in June.
