Sam Brown, a veteran of the Afghanistan war, has announced his second bid for the U.S. Senate, this time aiming to unseat Nevada's Democratic senator, Jacky Rosen.

Brown, a Republican, spoke with Fox News Digital ahead of his official announcement in Reno, Nevada, where he will outline his vision for the country's future. Brown's decision to run again is rooted in the concerns of Nevadans about the loss of the American dream and the future for their children. He believes that people are hurting due to high inflation and an unstable economy, and they are looking for a leader who will champion their cause in Washington, D.C.

Brown, a retired Army captain and Purple Heart recipient, sustained severe injuries from an IED explosion during his deployment in Afghanistan in 2008, which left his face severely burned. In 2022, Brown ran for the Senate for the first time, seeking to defeat Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. However, he came in second to former state Attorney General Adam Laxalt in Nevada's GOP primary. Despite his loss, Brown is now backed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee and is considered the front-runner for the nomination to challenge Rosen.

NRSC chair Sen. Steve Daines of Montana expressed his support for Brown, stating that his life of service and sacrifice is an inspiration to all Americans. Brown acknowledges the importance of gaining the trust and support of Nevadans and is focused on growing his grassroots network. He criticizes Rosen for the negative impact of her policies, such as high inflation, rising unemployment rates, and increasing crime rates. Brown describes Rosen as extreme, out of touch, and a huge disappointment. He specifically highlights her support for the teaching of critical race theory in schools as an example of her extreme views.

Brown emphasizes his military experience as a valuable asset, as it taught him the importance of prioritizing people and the mission over oneself. He believes that politicians in Washington, D.C., have lost touch with this principle and promises to represent the people and help them achieve the American dream if elected. Brown's leadership skills and focus on the mission and the people are qualities he brings to the table.

In the Republican field, Brown will be the fourth candidate to enter the race, joining former state Assemblyman Jim Marchant, civil rights attorney Ronda Kennedy, and real estate broker Stephanie Phillips. The Nevada Senate seat currently held by Rosen is considered a top target for Republicans in 2024, as they aim to capitalize on President Biden's unpopularity across the country. In the 2022 election, Cortez Masto won reelection with less than 8,000 votes, making the seat vulnerable for Republicans.

Democrats currently hold a slim majority in the Senate, with a 51-49 split, including three independent senators who caucus with the Democratic conference. However, the math and the map favor the GOP in 2024, as Democrats are defending 23 of the 34 seats up for grabs, including some in red states and key battlegrounds.

Republicans are cautious about their recruitment battles in 2024, as they aim to avoid a repeat of the 2022 midterms, where some Senate nominees handpicked by former President Donald Trump stumbled in the general election, potentially costing the GOP the majority in the chamber.

Defeating Rosen in the crucial western battleground state will not be an easy task. The former congresswoman, who was elected to the Senate in 2018, has already raised $2.7 million in the second quarter of 2023 and has $7.5 million in her campaign coffers as of April.
