Meta's corporate disclosures reveal they have spent $43.4 million on security costs over the past three years to ensure Zuckerberg's safety. The New York Post also reported that Meta increased its spending on Zuckerberg's security to $14 million in 2023, up from $10 million in previous years.
Meta justified the need for private security by stating it is necessary due to Zuckerberg's "position and importance to Meta." It is worth noting that Zuckerberg only receives a salary of $1 per year and no additional compensation in the form of bonuses or equity awards. Despite this, according to Forbes, Zuckerberg has a net worth of $13 billion.

In July 2020, the organization stated that "officers do not keep us safe or help us thrive" and called for divesting from institutions that harm communities and investing in violence prevention, housing, healthcare, and other community-based safety strategies. The organization even provides a comprehensive web resource for organizers to find everything they need for their campaign to defund the police in one place.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative also donated over $2.5 million to Solidaire, an organization that fights against corporate greed, economic inequality, climate change, gender and racial injustice, and anti-blackness.
In June 2022, Solitaire announced its support for defunding the police and created a document to help philanthropy understand the demand and support the work. Solidaire also highlighted its activist network, which includes the "Anti-Police Terror Project" that successfully removed $18 million from the Oakland Police Department's budget.
