A concerned mother recently sought advice from the popular Ask Amy column regarding a dilemma she faced after her conservative brother was excluded from her liberal niece's wedding.

The mother questioned whether she should approach her brother for financial assistance, given the circumstances. The response on Twitter was swift, with one user mocking the situation and suggesting that progressive individuals expect handouts, including loan repayments.

In her letter to the advice columnist, the mother explained that her daughter had expressed concerns about feeling unsafe if her uncle, referred to as "Dave," attended the wedding.

The daughter, who holds strong progressive beliefs, requested that her mother refrain from inviting Dave due to his conservative political views and support for candidates that the family finds objectionable.

The mother admitted to being surprised by her daughter's request, as she believed that Dave and her daughter had always maintained a good relationship.

Nevertheless, she complied with her daughter's wishes and sent Dave a polite note, informing him that he would not be invited to the wedding. Dave did not respond to the message and ultimately did not attend the event.

After the wedding, the mother sent Dave photos from the celebration, but she has not received any communication from him since. Additionally, her other siblings expressed anger towards her for excluding Dave in the first place.

The mother's main concern, however, was that Dave had not given her daughter and son-in-law a wedding gift. She mentioned that in the past, Dave had generously provided wedding checks exceeding $1,000 to other family members, and her daughter had expected a similar gesture.

Despite her husband's advice to let the matter go, the mother felt compelled to address the issue, as she found Dave's behavior upsetting and embarrassing.

Amy Dickinson, the advice columnist, acknowledged that while the bride had the right to decide who attended her wedding, the mother's actions after the event were inappropriate.

Dickinson pointed out that the mother had essentially rubbed Dave's exclusion in his face by sending him photos of the wedding he was deliberately not invited to.

Dickinson further emphasized that brides who are too afraid of family members to invite them to a family wedding should not expect to receive monetary gifts from them.

She encouraged the mother to have the courage to inform her daughter that the "Bank of Uncle Dave" was closed to their branch of the family.

The columnist also commended Dave for his mature behavior, noting that he had respected the mother's request to stay away from the wedding. In contrast, the mother's actions seemed to reflect a fear of her daughter, similar to her daughter's fear of Dave's political beliefs.

On Twitter, users chimed in on the situation, with one user, Jayhawkjenn, using the incident to criticize the entitled nature of leftists.

Another user, Tweettee, sarcastically commented that this behavior exemplified the expectations of progressive individuals, suggesting that they also anticipate having their loans paid off.
