U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty has issued a preliminary injunction, blocking federal government entities and officials from pressuring social media companies to censor "protected free speech" on their platforms.

The judge's decision comes in response to allegations made by plaintiffs, who claim that the government has violated First Amendment free speech rights.

In his ruling, Judge Doughty stated, "If the allegations made by Plaintiffs are true, the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States' history.

In their attempts to suppress alleged disinformation, the Federal Government, and particularly the Defendants named here, are alleged to have blatantly ignored the First Amendment's right to free speech."

According to the plaintiffs, the defendants colluded with and coerced social media platforms to suppress certain speakers, viewpoints, and content.

Judge Doughty acknowledged these allegations, stating, "The Plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits in establishing that the Government has used its power to silence the opposition.

Opposition to COVID-19 vaccines; opposition to COVID-19 masking and lockdowns; opposition to the lab-leak theory of COVID-19; opposition to the validity of the 2020 election; opposition to President Biden's policies; statements that the Hunter Biden laptop story was true; and opposition to policies of the government officials in power. All were suppressed."

The judge also noted that the suppressed speech predominantly consisted of conservative ideas, suggesting a targeted suppression of conservative political speech.

He described this as "viewpoint discrimination" and compared the government's actions to an Orwellian "Ministry of Truth."

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey expressed his support for the injunction, stating in a tweet, "The federal government cannot be trusted to protect Americans' rights, which is precisely why our Founders enshrined the First Amendment into the Constitution.

This injunction is a huge win in the fight to defend our most fundamental freedoms. But we're not done yet. We're just getting started."

The judge's ruling serves as a temporary measure to prevent further infringement on free speech rights while the case progresses. It highlights the importance of upholding the First Amendment and raises questions about the government's role in regulating speech on social media platforms.
