Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has seen a significant increase in his net worth, now reaching $1.17 million in 2022, according to a financial disclosure form filed with the state of Florida.

This marks a substantial jump from the $319,000 he reported in June of 2021.

The surge in DeSantis' wealth can be attributed to the success of his book, "The Courage to Be Free," which was published earlier this year to bolster his presidential aspirations.

Last year, DeSantis listed two sources of income: his governor's salary of $141,400 and a hefty $1.25 million from HarperCollins Publishers.

This payment was part of a reported $2 million advance on his memoir. The book, which quickly became a New York Times bestseller, sold nearly 170,000 print copies by mid-June, a remarkable achievement for a candidate's autobiography.

Despite his newfound wealth, DeSantis does not possess any real estate assets or investments. Instead, he has chosen to keep his money in checking and savings accounts with USAA, a bank that caters to military members and veterans, as well as a couple of retirement funds.

Interestingly, DeSantis is still burdened by student loan debt amounting to over $18,000, which he acquired during his time at Yale University and Harvard Law School. Last year, he managed to pay off approximately $2,600 of this debt.

It is worth noting that DeSantis has been critical of President Biden's promise to alleviate the student debts of millions of Americans, arguing that it is unfair for individuals with advanced degrees to have their loans forgiven while others, such as truck drivers, are left to repay their debts.

In a blow to President Biden's plan, the Supreme Court recently ruled that his proposal to cancel hundreds of billions of dollars in federally held student loan debt exceeded his presidential authority.

This decision has implications for the future of student loan forgiveness in the United States.
