Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told a drug cartel to behave, "Or I'm telling your parents!" His comments sparked outrage in Mexico, with many claiming he is known for his softness on cartel crime.

The cartel he addressed is one of Mexico's most violent drug cartels in Jalisco. He told them to release 16 kidnapped police employees or "I'm telling your parents."

According to Breitbart, the Mexican politician commented during his morning news conference this week. He acknowledged that a group of gunmen from Cartel Jalisco New Generation, CJNG, stopped a bus full of Chiapas state police employees and kidnapped 16.

Breitbart reported that a passing motorist captured the kidnapping on video. The video reveals many gunmen pointing rifles at the police bus.

The cartel responsible is a Mexican organized crime syndicate based in Jalisco, formerly Los Mata Zetas. The group is headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho," one of the world's most-wanted drug lords. As of 2020, the CJNG is considered the most dangerous criminal organization in Mexico and the second most powerful drug cartel in Mexico after the Sinaloa Cartel.

CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel control the major drug trafficking routes in southern Mexico.

CJNG gunmen later leaked videos showing the kidnapped police employees forced to deliver a message to the governor that the cartel demanded the resignation of three state security leaders. The three officials have reportedly been helping members of their rival Sinaloa Cartel.

In the meantime, many locals have fled their homes due to the violence of the CJNG. Those fleeing their homes claim that cartel members began conscripting men and teenagers in rural communities.
