For months, the USA's vast public school system served children chicken tenders with bone fragments and metal inside.

It turns out the man that oversaw the food for the New York school system knew about it. As the trial has unfolded, one shocking detail after another came to the surface.

According to Fox News, “Former city Department of Education official Eric Goldstein and three men who founded a school food vendor — Blaine Iler, Michael Turley and Brian Twomey — were found guilty of bribery, conspiracy and other charges after a monthlong trial.”

The trial included looking deeply at everything on the menu, including yogurt and other items. Then, it focused on what happened when Chiktopia appeared in 2016-2017. This timeframe is when chicken tenders containing plastic, bones and metal appeared on the menu. United States Attorney Breon Peace quickly pointed out that the children at school depended on the school for nutritious meals. Instead, they got someone that chose greed over their health.

The trial tied everything together for jurors. Per Fox News, “Former city Department of Education official Eric Goldstein and three men who founded a school food vendor — Blaine Iler, Michael Turley and Brian Twomey — were found guilty of bribery, conspiracy and other charges after a monthlong trial.” Then, all four men formed a company for grass-fed beef, which the prosecution says was a way to pay off Goldstein.

Prosecuting attorneys pointed out thousands of dollars went to Goldstein and his divorce lawyer. In exchange, he ensured the school system purchased from Chickentopia. However, in 2016 an employee at the school choked while eating one of the products because of a bone inside. The school stopped buying products from the brand. However, that did not last long.

Fox says, "As head of the school system's Office of School Support Services from 2008 to 2018, Goldstein oversaw functions including the food service operation, known as SchoolFood. Iler, Twomey and Turley had a company, SOMMA Food Group, with its eye on the New York City school system."

Goldstein denied the accusations. His attorneys said that payments were business-related, such as reimbursements for travel expenses. He insisted that it was not possible for him to "single-handedly" purchase products for the school.

However, jurors disagreed. He is guilty, but sentencing information has yet to be released. His attorneys declined to comment on the case.
