Montana Democratic Senator Jon Tester's staff worked quickly to prevent an embarrassing incident from becoming public knowledge after he relieved himself in a pea field while accompanied by a reporter.

In his new book, "The Big Break: The Gamblers, Party Animals, and True Believers Trying to Win in Washington While America Loses Its Mind," journalist Ben Terris shared an anecdote about spending time with Tester on his Montana farm. During their visit, Tester, who is also a farmer, took a bathroom break in an organic pea field next to his tractor, with Terris present.

Terris wrote, "A couple of years later, I was in Montana writing a profile of Jon Tester when the flat-topped, seven-fingered senator (who was also a working farmer) suddenly started relieving himself in an organic pea field next to his tractor without covering himself up." Terris also mentioned that a press aide, who coincidentally also had seven fingers, approached him and asked if the incident could be kept off the record.

Fox News Digital reached out to Tester's campaign for comment on the story, but no response was received at the time of reporting.

Recently, Tester gained a challenger for his Senate seat in the form of Tim Sheehy, a businessman, firefighting pilot, and former Navy SEAL. Sheehy exclusively announced his candidacy with Fox News Digital, emphasizing the need for "a new generation of leadership" in his bid to unseat incumbent Tester.

The Montana Senate race is closely watched as it could potentially determine whether Republicans gain a majority in the Senate in the 2024 cycle. Sheehy, shifting the focus away from political parties, stated, "One thing I learned in a foxhole in Afghanistan or the belly of a submarine is that when the chips are down, there is really only one political party — and that's American."

Before entering politics, Sheehy served in various regions, including Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific, earning accolades such as the Bronze Star with Valor for Heroism in Combat and the Purple Heart Medal. Additionally, Sheehy is a business owner and shares four children with his Marine veteran wife, Carmen Sheehy.
