Unsurprisingly, left-leaning individuals were quick to criticize the senator's remarks. Keith Olbermann, for instance, responded with a profanity-laden tweet, while former Ohio state Senator Nina Turner described the video as "extremely inappropriate at best, a threat at worst."

A political scientist, Brian Klaas criticized Senator Scott's video as mere political theater. "These people are clowns. Every aspect of modern Republican politics is geared toward performative pandering to the extremist base. The idea that a senior US politician would take the time to record a video telling 'communists' not to vacation in Florida… is just absurd," Klaas tweeted.

This recent video from Senator Scott echoes a "travel advisory" he issued last month, which stated that Florida is openly hostile towards socialists, communists, and those who support them. According to a press release, the advisory claimed that Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of individuals who work in the Biden Administration.
It appears that Senator Scott's advisory directly responded to an NAACP travel advisory about Florida, which alleged that the state is openly hostile towards African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
