Arizona Governor Breaks Woke Barriers With This New Order

This move ensures that state workers' healthcare plans will no longer exclude coverage for these controversial procedures.

The executive order states, "The Department of Administration shall remove the Exclusion from the State's healthcare plan as soon as practicable and in compliance with State law." It further highlights that the healthcare plan has excluded coverage for gender reassignment surgery since 2017.

In a press release, Governor Hobbs expressed her commitment to fighting for full equality and eliminating hate and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community. She stated, "Our LGBTQ+ community should never have to face hate and discrimination, and I will do everything in my power to fight for full equality. The state is leading by example on this issue, and we will continue working until Arizona is a place where everyone can participate equally in our economy and workforce without fear of discrimination or exclusion."

In addition to addressing gender-transition surgery coverage, Governor Hobbs signed an executive order to protect LGBTQ+ minors. The order declares that state agencies should not use state or federal resources to promote or support any form of "conversion therapy" on children. It further emphasizes the need to develop and implement policies to safeguard LGBTQ+ minors from harmful medical and mental healthcare services related to "conversion therapy."

Governor Hobbs, who previously served as Arizona's secretary of state, emerged victorious in the 2022 gubernatorial contest, defeating Republican candidate Kari Lake. Lake, who had the backing of former President Donald Trump, continues to dispute the results, claiming that she is the lawful governor of Arizona. In her book, "Unafraid," Lake wrote, "The current occupant of the governor's office is just a squatter."
