The New York Times has confirmed a significant claim regarding the Department of Justice's mishandling of the Hunter Biden probe.

However, the newspaper buried this information deep within its Tuesday report. The House Ways and Means Committee released testimony from two IRS whistleblowers, alleging that Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from the Justice Department.

One of the whistleblowers, Gary Shapley, claimed that the DOJ told U.S. Attorney David Weiss that he could not bring charges against Hunter Biden in California and Washington D.C. Attorney General Merrick Garland denied any interference in the investigation. Nevertheless, The New York Times has confirmed that Weiss made such claims about the DOJ.

According to The Times, Weiss reached out to Matthew Graves, the top federal prosecutor in Washington, in mid-2022, asking his office to pursue charges against Hunter Biden. However, Graves rejected the request. A similar appeal to the Central District of California prosecutors was also dismissed. The Times independently confirmed this information through a source with knowledge of the situation. It is worth noting that The Times did not mention this confirmation until the 21st paragraph of its report, titled "Competing Accounts of Justice Dept. 's Handling of Hunter Biden Case." Fox News contacted The Times for comment, but there was no immediate response.

Last week, Garland denied any wrongdoing by the DOJ. He stated that Weiss, appointed by President Trump as the U.S. attorney in Delaware and assigned to the Hunter Biden case during the previous administration, had the authority to continue his investigation and make decisions on prosecution. Garland emphasized that Weiss had complete autonomy in making these decisions.

The IRS whistleblowers' testimony made damning accusations against the DOJ, with the most significant claim implicating President Biden. As part of their testimony, they presented a WhatsApp text message allegedly sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese business associate. In the message, Hunter Biden invoked his father as part of what Republicans claim was an illicit extortion scheme. The text read, "I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight."

An attorney for Hunter Biden did not deny the authenticity of the message. In a statement to Fox News Digital, the attorney acknowledged that any verifiable words or actions of Hunter Biden during his struggle with addiction were solely his own and had no connection to anyone in his family. The White House Counsel's Office reiterated its claim that President Biden was not involved in business dealings with his son.

The New York Times has confirmed U.S. Attorney David Weiss's claim about the Department of Justice's handling of the Hunter Biden case. This confirmation was buried deep within The Times' report.

The IRS whistleblowers' testimony also implicated President Biden, with a text message allegedly sent by Hunter Biden suggesting his father's involvement in an extortion scheme. While Hunter Biden's attorney did not deny the message's authenticity, the White House Counsel's Office maintained that President Biden had no business connection with his son.
