In a recent spat on the ABC talk show "The View", Francis Suarez, Miami's Republican Mayor, and 2024 presidential candidate, faced criticism from co-host Sunny Hostin over his potential support for former President Donald Trump.

Suarez, who announced his presidential candidacy on June 15, has quickly emerged as a leading contender from Florida. He confessed to not casting his ballot for Trump in the 2016 or 2020 elections.

During the televised conversation, Hostin questioned Suarez's integrity and wisdom, insinuating he might support a twice-impeached former President facing two ongoing criminal indictments. "You would vote for a man who Bill Barr said that the federal indictment against the former president is very damning. Do you think those charges of national security are damning?" Hostin inquired.

In response, Suarez said, "I think they're serious, and I'll tell you this, Sunny —." He was cut off by Hostin, who pressed him on his potential vote for Trump if he didn't secure the nomination.

Suarez replied, "I'm running for president, I want people to vote for me," He further expressed his desire for an opportunity to "serve people humbly and make their lives better."

The conversation took a turn when co-host Joy Behar suggested Suarez's potential support for Trump was politically motivated, aimed at securing the backing of Trump's loyal base.

"Are you saying you would vote for him because you know you need his base to vote for you or because you'd think he'd actually be a good president?" Behar asked, to which Hostin added, "From prison."

Suarez retorted, "Joy, what I'm saying is I'd vote for myself," and pointed out the undue focus on the former President as a sign of division and toxicity in the country's political discourse.

He defended his stance, saying, "Because people are asking me a question about whether I'd vote for one person or the other, and I want to be honest about my answer,"

The television hosts had previously discussed and applauded the federal indictment against Trump, who is facing 37 counts of alleged mishandling of 300 classified documents. This resulted in 31 counts of purported violations of the Espionage Act.
