Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) delivered a speech alongside President Biden and other elected officials, addressing the urgent need to repair a collapsed portion of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.

However, Senator Fetterman stumbled over words during his remarks and faced difficulty pronouncing specific terms.

Referring to President Biden's commitment to work with the governor and the delegation to address the issue promptly, Senator Fetterman said, "[President Biden] is here to commit to work with the governor and the delegation to make sure that we get this fixed quick, fast, as well, too." Instances of word stumbling and mispronunciations marked the senator's speech.

Senator Fetterman began his speech by recalling a previous incident in which he stood beside President Biden over a year ago when the Fern Hollow Bridge collapsed in western Pennsylvania in January 2022. He mentioned that the bridge was rebuilt in less than a year, well ahead of schedule.

Attempting to express President Biden's commitment to infrastructure, Senator Fetterman struggled to pronounce the word, saying, "This is a president that is committed to infrucsure [sic], yeah, and then on then top of that the jewel kind of uh, uh law." It remains unclear what the senator meant by referring to a "jewel" in this context.

Furthermore, Senator Fetterman mentioned an "inflation infruc [sic] bill" that would ensure the reconstruction of bridges across America. It is unclear whether he referred to the infrastructure bill signed in 2021 or the Inflation Reduction Act signed in December 2022.

The senator concluded his brief address by introducing Congressman Boya Bile [sic], after which Representative Brendan Boyle took the podium.

Earlier in the week, Representatives Boyle, Casey, and Fetterman announced emergency funding of $3 million to address the I-95 collapse.

It is worth noting that Senator Fetterman experienced a stroke in May 2022 and was hospitalized for depression on February 15. He received treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center for approximately six weeks before returning to the Senate on April 17.

During the "Rebuilding I-95" event, Senator Fetterman stood out in his attire, wearing a steel blue Carhartt hoodie, athletic shorts, and sneakers. At the same time, the other members of the delegation were dressed more formally in suits, with some forgoing ties. The senator has been frequently seen in similar outfits while working in Washington, D.C.

Governor Josh Shapiro provided reassurance that the crucial interstate would be reopened within the next two weeks.
