Adora Nwofor, the President of Black Lives Matter YYC in Calgary, Canada, has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly impeding access to a Catholic school.

Nwofor, who has led several rallies, including some for George Floyd, is also a stand-up comedian. According to court records reported by The National Post, Nwofor was charged with mischief on June 2, 2023, stemming from an incident on May 26, 2023, when she allegedly "willfully obstructed and interfered" with the use of a property "primarily used for religious worship and educational purposes."

The documents state that Nwofor allegedly interfered with people's use of St. Thomas Aquinas, a Catholic school in Calgary, Alberta, "for reasons of bias, prejudice, or hate based on race or ethnic origin."

Recently, Nwofor stated on her Twitter account that she would never stop being "bitter" about her "Black girl experience," according to Counter Signal. The report has also used the hashtag "#worshipme" over 50 times. In 2021, Nwofor complained that many people did not want to be aligned with Black Lives Matter and stated that the reason was that they "don't understand." She also told reporters that she had faced racism too many times to count and gave her definition of "white privilege."

"White privilege is knowing that you never have to think about being white. You never have to think, 'Oh, I'm going to go this place and I'm not going to be OK because I'm white,'" she explained.

Nwofor's activism has been controversial, with some accusing her of being divisive and promoting hatred. The charges against her have further fueled the debate over the role of Black Lives Matter in Canadian society. While some argue that the movement is necessary to address systemic racism, others believe it promotes a dangerous ideology that harms society. The case against Nwofor is ongoing, and it remains to be seen how it will be resolved.
