In an extraordinary development in Marion County, Florida, an individual returning from a seven-month vacation in New Zealand discovered his residence in disarray and allegedly occupied by a squatter, Fox News Digital reports.

Ze'Moye Brown was apprehended by the Marion County Sheriff's Office on Friday following a confrontation with the unnamed homeowner.

Upon his return, the proprietor found his residence vandalized, with multiple items absent. Promptly, he reported the unsettling discovery to the local police. The homeowner later took an unconventional approach to apprehend the intruder; he spent the night in a closet. According to the affidavit, his strategy bore fruit when his alarm blared at 8 p.m., revealing Brown intruding into his makeshift refuge.

A heated exchange ensued between the two, involving a debate on the rightful owner of the house. The resident resorted to using his Beretta handgun, discharging a shot towards the front door to coerce Brown to vacate, as per the affidavit.

Brown, consequently, vacated the premises and reached out to the authorities, claiming he had been shot. Intriguingly, Brown alleged that he was the rightful owner of the residence where he was reportedly squatting, according to Fox 35.

The authorities eventually charged Brown with a raft of offenses, including misdemeanor trespassing, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and felony possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. After apprehending Brown, the police discovered a rock-like substance in his pocket that tested positive for methamphetamine and a bag containing marijuana.

Post-arrest, Brown made some intriguing claims to the police. According to Fox 35, he admitted to living in the house for "a few months," insisting he was the sole inhabitant. He further claimed that he found it unsecured upon his arrival at the home, with doors and windows unlocked. Brown added that the house had been lying vacant for three years.

Brown is currently being detained on a $4,000 bond. This unconventional case underlines the need for homeowners to secure their residences adequately, particularly when planning to be away for extended periods.
