Over the weekend, at least 32 people were shot in Chicago, with three fatalities, according to reports.

The first fatal shooting occurred on Sunday at around 1 a.m. when 27-year-old Santos Rodriguez was shot in the 3700 block of West Division Street.

Rodriguez was taken to the hospital but later died. Later that morning, two men, aged 25 and 30, were shot in the 3100 block of West Redfield Drive. The 25-year-old survived, but the 30-year-old died. In the evening, a 20-year-old was shot and killed while standing on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of South St. Louis Avenue. The gunmen opened fire from inside a passing vehicle.

Breitbart News reported that four people were wounded when gunmen opened fire on a funeral procession on Saturday at around 1 p.m. The gunmen, in a white pickup truck, pulled up alongside the parade and opened fire, wounding two people in one vehicle and two people in another.

Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, has not commented on the weekend's shootings. However, the city has recently been grappling with a surge in gun violence. According to the Chicago Police Department, 1,587 shootings in the city have occurred this year, with 1,901 victims. This represents a 12% increase in shootings compared to last year.

The department has also seized over 7,000 illegal guns this year. The city's gun violence problem has been a national debate, with some calling for stricter gun control measures. In contrast, others argue that the problem is rooted in poverty, gang violence, and a lack of economic opportunities. Regardless of the cause, the city's residents are left to grapple with the consequences of the violence, which has claimed far too many lives.
