The Tigard Public Library in Portland, Oregon, has canceled its Drag Queen Story Hour event scheduled for this Sunday due to threats of violence from Antifa, a far-left militant group.

The library announced the cancellation on Twitter, citing concerns that the community's safety may be jeopardized. The Tigard Police Department confirmed that the threats of violence had been repeated and that the library would be closed for the day "out of an abundance of caution."

The event was planned to feature drag queens reading stories to children, but local Antifa members, led by Dajah Renee Beck, had planned to stage a counter-protest against concerned parents. The parents had designed to occupy all available seats, leaving none for children, and produce a protest outside the library. Beck tweeted, "We can handle this easily. Grab some friends and get there first. No more of this sh*t." Another Antifa member replied, "I'll be there. It won't be the first time we've chased the fash out of town."

Beck has a history of violence and was recently found guilty of rioting and first-degree criminal mischief in connection with a violent riot in Tigard in 2021. During the incident, Antifa members attacked police and businesses across the town. Despite her violent history, Beck received no prison time after cutting a sweetheart deal and was only sentenced to two years probation. On Twitter, Beck describes herself as "leftist, antifascist, antiracist," and "Map lady."

The Tigard Police Department emphasized that the safety of the kids, families, and all patrons who rely on the Tigard Public Library to be an inclusive and welcoming place is paramount. The event's cancellation highlights the ongoing tension between those who support the Drag Queen Story Hour and those who oppose it, with Antifa's involvement adding another layer of complexity to the issue.
