According to New York Post, McDonald stated that the employees' actions went against the company's official policy, which prohibits employees from interfering with robberies for their safety. The procedure requires employees to scan a QR code after the theft and ignore it, as per Lululemon's employee handbook.
McDonald emphasized that the employees were not fired for calling the police but for violating the company's "zero-tolerance" policy, prioritizing the team's and guests' safety. He added that the company trains its employees to let the theft occur, as there is technology and cameras in place, and law enforcement is involved.

McDonald explained that the policy is in place to protect employees, as there have been instances where employees have been hurt or killed while trying to intervene. He stressed that the company takes the policy seriously and must enforce it. The CEO's comments come after a viral video showed the two former employees engaging with the thieves, which led to their firing.

Rachel Rogers, a 23-year-old store associate who worked at the Peachtree Corners store, recorded the robbery and claimed that the same group of thieves had targeted the store for weeks. She stated that the thieves would consistently rob the store around an hour before closing, snatch merchandise from store fixtures closest to the door, and then flee in their getaway car. A spokesperson for Lululemon told investigators that four men wearing the same clothing had robbed another Lululemon store in the Atlanta area the same week.

In the video, Ashley Ferguson, a mother of four and former Lululemon employee, yelled for the group to leave the store as the thieves swiped leggings from a store fixture and an accomplice held the door open. The employees followed the group outside, not physically trying to stop them. They called the Gwinnett Police Department, whose officers tracked down the red Subaru SUV used as a getaway car despite the suspects allegedly changing the license plate as they fled. Bayo Allen, 19, Quintavious Gooch, 19, Braylon Shivers, 20, and Nicholas Lynch, 26, were arrested two days after the April 24 robbery, which was caught on camera, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. Shivers, Gooch, and Allen, remain behind bars at Georgia's Fayette County Jail.
