According to a report by Fox News, an American tourist vacationing in the Turks and Caicos has suffered a horrific bite by a shark.

A statement posted to Instagram by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force stated, "Based on preliminary reports, at around 3:07 PM today (Wednesday, 24th May), an employee of a resort located in the vicinity of the Leeward Marina, Providenciales, called the Police Control Room requesting ambulance assistance." "The employee indicated that the female victim had her leg bitten off by a shark."

The 22-year-old and her friend were snorkeling on Wednesday in the waters off Providenciales Island when the attack occurred. The woman, who remains unidentified as of Wednesday night, was taken to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, where she was listed in serious condition.

Fox News Digital has contacted the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands police force for an update.

Just days before the shark attack in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a teenager in Pennsylvania surfing over the weekend in South New Jersey was attacked. According to authorities, the injuries were consistent with those of a shark attack.

On Sunday afternoon, another report of a shark attack was reported by Fox 29 in Philadelphia. The attack occurred in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where a 15-year-old girl was bitten. An emergency team rescued the girl as soon as the attack occurred. She was then transported to a nearby hospital, where non-life-threatening injuries to her foot and calf required six stitches.

Stone Harbor officials said, "After careful examination, it has been ascertained by the New Jersey State Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office that the injuries sustained by the surfer are consistent with those typically associated with a shark f unknown size and type." Over the weekend, a great white shark was spotted off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, consuming a seal.

The Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch company posted on social media what the crew and passengers observed on Saturday morning. The post said, "The entire event only lasted around 7 minutes from when we first saw the shark quickly break the surface of the water, in what we think was the initial strike, to when the seal was consumed."
