Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has announced that he is sending resources to Texas to assist in securing the southern border of the United States against the significant influx of illegal immigrants.

In a statement, DeSantis expressed concern over the impact of what he called "Biden's Border Crisis" on communities nationwide. He criticized the federal government for neglecting its duty, which he believes undermines the country's sovereignty and the rule of law.

Under DeSantis' direction, various state agencies, including law enforcement and the Florida National Guard, will be deployed to Texas. The resources being sent include personnel, boats, and planes. DeSantis emphasized that while President Biden appears to ignore the crisis he created, Florida is ready to assist Texas in responding to this ongoing challenge.

The governor's office stated that Florida has over 1,100 assets and resources available for assistance, including 101 Highway Patrol personnel, 200 Department of Law Enforcement officers, 800 National Guard soldiers, emergency management personnel, 17 unmanned drones, and ten vessels, including airboats. These resources will be made available through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, an agreement that allows states to support each other during emergencies.

This is not the first time Governor DeSantis has offered assistance to border states. In 2021, at the beginning of President Biden's immigration crisis, he provided law enforcement support to both Texas and Arizona. The Texas Department of Public Safety welcomed the support from Florida, recognizing the need for additional resources to combat criminal activity and intercept narcotics.

Before the recent end of the Title 42 public health order, which allowed for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the border, the number of illegal immigrants encountered surged to over 10,000 per day.

Just hours before the order ended, Florida achieved a significant legal victory by obtaining a two-week restraining order against the Biden administration's attempts to release illegal immigrants into the U.S. on "parole with conditions."
