According to multiple unnamed sources close to Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host is reportedly considering either starting or working for a competitor to the network.

Carlson's attorney, Bryan Freedman, dismissed the idea that anyone could silence Carlson and prevent him from speaking to his audience in response to a contract dispute with Fox News.

Since Carlson departed from the network on April 21, Fox News has experienced a significant drop in ratings among vital demographic segments and continued backlash from its viewers.

Freedman, who also represents Don Lemon, secured a $30 million payout for former Fox News host Megyn Kelly. Kelly has publicly defended Carlson on social media and has named the individual at the network she believes is responsible for the recent leaks of Carlson's texts and behind-the-scenes video clips.

The leaks, which included behind-the-scenes banter with a makeup artist and a text in which Carlson described his evolving reaction to the Capitol riots of January 6, have been widely criticized on social media.

Axios reported that Carlson is "plotting a media empire of his own" but may be held up since his contract with Fox News does not expire until January 2025.

The outlet also stated that Carlson and Elon Musk have been conversing about working together and that Carlson is considering a direct-to-consumer model to deliver content to viewers.

Twitter recently re-launched its creator subscription program, which allows creators to monetize their content on the platform. For the next year, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has stated that Twitter will keep none of the subscription fees.

After Fox News announced it was benching Carlson, the top-rated host took to Twitter to address viewers directly. In a roughly two-minute video posted on April 26 at 8:01 ET, his former time slot, Carlson stated that his team was preparing for war and that he wanted freedom. The post has since been viewed nearly 81 million times, with the video attached to the post garnering more than 24 million views.

While Carlson is known for his conservative viewpoints, his departure from Fox News and a potential move to a competitor could have significant implications for the media landscape.
