Casey Cole White recently entered a plea deal about his escape from a jail in Alabama and the death of the jailer who helped him escape.

In exchange for his guilty plea to first-degree flight, the murder charge against him was dropped. His sentencing is scheduled for June 8, and he could be sentenced to life in prison.

Mr. White still faces the initial 2015 murder charge he was being held for when he escaped. His trial on that charge is slated to occur on June 12, 2023, for that charge. Prosecutors note the man confessed to that murder in 2020. The prosecution states they won’t seek the death penalty in that stabbing death case.

The inmate escaped when the 17-year sheriff’s office veteran told her subordinates she was bringing him to a mental health appointment. She also claimed she wasn’t feeling well and sought medical care after dropping off Mr. White for his evaluation. However, there is much more to the story than that. The inmate and officer were getting too cozy when no one else was looking.

It wasn’t known then that the woman and the inmate were in a relationship. It later came out that they had fallen in love and wanted to start a new life together. The pair had phone sex and had been in contact with each other 949 times from Aug. 2021 through Feb. 2022.

After his escape, the pair was on the run for 11 days before being caught in Indiana. Vicky White, the jailer, died due to a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. It’s noted that her death is directly related to the felony first-degree escape. Mr. White was charged with murder because of a law that enables prosecutors to hold a defendant liable for death if it occurs because of the commission of a violent felony.
