Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida is under attack by protesters because of the latest bill passed by the state expanding the Parental Rights to Education law.

A report by Breitbart notes the bill had “new reforms banning diversity programmers in state colleges as well as making it so that teachers do not have to refer to a child using their preferred pronouns.”

Progressive activists in Florida say the changes are being deemed “racist” and “transphobic.” The passing of the bill enraged some of the activists who reportedly stormed the governor’s office to protest the passing of the bill.

Fox News reports that although the protesters were at the governor’s office, the amount of disruption they caused by their stunt was minimal. Also, DeSantis was reportedly out of state when the incident occurred.

Breitbart also notes that the disruption didn’t seem to have much, if any, effect on the governor’s staff and that they appeared bemused by the occupation and disinterested in what was happening. One office worker sat quietly at their desk, eating cake as the anti-DeSantis protesters made their way around.

The protesters were given a 30-minute warning by law enforcement. When the time was up, the police broke up the protest. Twelve of the people participating in the protest were placed under arrest and charged with trespassing.

Governor DeSantis has been the topic of discussion recently over his stand on Parental Rights in Education for schools in the state of Florida.

From a news release by the governor’s staff, a passage from the release explains that “House Bill (HB) 557 reinforces parents’ fundamental rights to make decisions regarding the upbringing of their children. The bill prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through 3rd grade and prohibits instruction that is not age appropriate for students, and requires school districts to adopt procedures for notifying parents if there is a change in services from the school regarding a child’s mental, emotional or physical health or well-being.”

Governor DeSantis is expected to throw his hat into the ring and make a bid as the Republican nominee for President later in the year.
