When it comes to art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, at least, that’s what it’s supposed to illicit when being observed, but the Gateway Pundit reports unhinged climate activists have chosen vandalism and public temper tantrums as their way of appreciating priceless artwork.

On Thursday, Edgar Degas’ famous sculpture “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen” was vandalized by vandals at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Fortunately, the sculpture was encased in a glass case while on display, which protected it from the red and black paint the vandals smeared on the glass case and pedestal. Police arrived at the National Gallery of Art and promptly hauled the two protesters to jail.

Kaywin Feldman, the director of the National Gallery of Art, said, “We unequivocally denounce this physical attack on one of our works of art and will continue to share information as it becomes available.” Feldman also noted the FBI was involved in the investigation.

The Washington Post reported the two vandals, Tim Martin of North Carolina and Joanna Smith of New York City, were identified by Declare Emergency, a climate activist group. The group posted on Facebook bragging about the actions of Smith and Martin, saying, “We are proud of everyone who was involved in this action! Thanks, Troy.”

On Twitter, Declare Action posted, “Around 11 AM today, two parents who are terrified about their children’s futures (as well as all children) made a statement at the National Gallery in DC Climate change will cause famine, floods, droughts, and destruction unless we act now. #DecEmergency #ActOnClimate.”

The Washington Post also shared footage of the pair of vandals dressed in dark clothing and smeared with black and red paint. One protester said, “We need our leaders to take serious action, to tell us the truth about what is happening with the climate.” Adding, “we are parents, and our first job is to protect our children.”

The second vandal said, “We are adults. We should be at home working.” “I have a job that requires health and safety, but I can’t do my job unless I have a government that does their job in looking out for the health and safety of our children.”

The Hill reported other climate activists’ vandalism using priceless artwork as their target to make a statement. Other instances included pea soup thrown on a painting by Vincent van Gogh and his iconic “Sunflowers,” the target of tomato soup. Works by Andy Warhol and Johannes Vermeer were also vandalized to make a point about the climate.
