Fox News reports disturbing information about the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). According to the news media, the animal welfare group has hundreds of millions of dollars, including millions in offshore accounts in the Caribbean.

The news media also says ASPCA salaries are in the six figures for some employees. The unsettling point of the report is the group allegedly gives a meager 2 percent to pet shelters.

The Center for the Environment and Welfare (CEW) is a newly formed group that announced the launch of a paid media campaign to “expose the duplicity” of the ASPCA. The animal welfare group is a non-profit with the mission of preventing animal cruelty throughout America, but the dollar figures are causing concern.

In an interview with Fox News, CEW executive director Jack Hubbard said, “We’re concerned about misinformation and a lack of information about the true agenda of the ASPCA.” “We’re trying to educate the public about who this group is and who it’s not.”

The ASPCA is known worldwide. The group promotes its message via TV commercials showing abused animals living in horrific conditions. The background music is heart-wrenching as the images are displayed. The CEW says the ASPCA has an agenda that is more about enriching itself and promoting a radical political agenda than helping animals in need.

The CEW has an extensive media campaign with an expenditure in the six figures with plans to grow the campaign into a million-dollar effort. The current campaign includes a radio spot, a nationally advertised TV ad, plus Twitter and Facebook digital ads.

Hubbard said, “This is not a flash in the pan.” “This will be a sustained campaign.” A new report from the CEW used the tax filings by the ASPCA to determine that only 2 percent of the group’s budget is given to pet shelters.

In 2021, the CEW notes, the ASPCA had revenue totaling $390 million plus $575 million in assets. The figures also included $310 million in investments and another $105 million in savings. The tax filings also showed a nearly $1 million yearly salary for ASPCA CEO Matt Berkshadker.

Hubbard said, “When you start sharing this information with people, especially animal lovers, they’re outraged.” “There’s a euthanasia crisis in this country, with more than a million animals killed, euthanized in the U.S. each year, and you’ve got this group sitting on $300 million in investments.”
