Getting a word out edge-wise without interruption proved challenging for Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis at a Friday GOP fundraiser in New Hampshire.

Fox News reports that about two minutes into his speech, Governor DeSantis was interrupted by two female protesters who had managed to make their way to the podium, even though everyone had to pass through a security sweep. The two women were quickly removed by security.

The report says the two women appeared to chant “Jews against DeSantis.” In response to their chant, DeSantis took the high road and highlighted the comments. With the audience cheering and applauding, he said, “You’ve got to have a little spice in the speech. Right. I mean, you’ve gotta have a little fun.” After lightening the mood with those comments, he returned to his prepared remarks.

The New Hampshire trip was the first in DeSantis’ cycle of visits. The Governor has already made stops in Iowa and Nevada this year. Next week, he plans to visit South Carolina.

During his speech at the fundraiser, DeSantis didn’t mention the presidential campaign or his intention to run. He said, “I have only begun to fight.”

Governor DeSantis has seen an increase among conservatives across the U.S. over the past three years. The conservative Governor has stood firm against pandemic restrictions, media, teachers’ unions, and corporations, placing him in good stead in the Sunshine State as a ‘culture warrior.’

He received a loud response of approval when he talked about his controversial push to ban instruction in the classroom on gender identity and sexual orientation in Florida. He asked, “is wrong to tell a second-grader that they were born in the wrong body.”

DeSantis is expected to launch a presidential campaign sometime next month at the end of Florida’s legislative session.
