Sen. Richard Blumenthal returned to his duties after incurring a fractured femur during a March Madness Championship parade to celebrate the national champion UConn Huskies.

CBS News reports that Blumenthal said he had a fractured femur after a fellow parade attendee tripped and fell over on him. Blumenthal is a Democrat Senator from Connecticut, and he tweeted the following about the situation:

“Routine surgery tomorrow just to make sure everything heals properly. I expect a full recovery!”

Chris Murphy, the other Democrat Senator from Connecticut, said that Blumenthal fractured his leg, but he got up, dusted himself off, and continued with the parade. Murphy tweeted that Blumenthal: “dusted himself off and finished the parade. Most Dick Blumenthal thing ever.”

The UConn Huskies went on a major run in the NCAA men’s championship to claim their fifth overall national title in men’s college basketball. They started the tournament as the 4th seed in the bracket and were not expected to make it deep into the tournament. However, they dusted off opponent after opponent and found themselves in the championship game in one of the strangest March Madness tournaments seen in a long time. They then completed the mission by taking out the San Diego State Aztecs to clinch the title.

A traditional parade was held in Hartford, Connecticut, to celebrate the team’s victory. The parade drew thousands of spectators, including Senator Blumenthal. Unfortunately, it seems that someone lost their footing and fell on the Senator, causing the injury.

The Senator is 77 years old and insists on being treated medically to ensure everything heals properly, not taking a chance with something like this, but he also to be ready to get back to taking care of his responsibilities as a Senator in no time. Many people posting on social media are still concerned about Blumenthal but understand he is sending out the right message to suggest things will turn out okay after this injury.

The Senator put out the following messages on Twitter: “What can I say, I love a parade!” and “Proud to be there. GO, HUSKIES.”

He doesn’t appear to regret having been at the parade at all. The tradition of basketball is huge at UConn and is an event one would expect the Senator from that state to support. Thus, Blumenthal seems to have made the right move to be there, even if it caused him to get injured.
