Alejandro De La Torre loves the adrenaline rush of anything exciting.

He was bored at 12 years old and began exploring abandoned buildings. Then, he climbed to a roof. After that, he kept going higher. Now, he’s spent two years climbing some of the city’s tallest structures. According to Torre, he hasn’t been caught. That changed last week.

Last week, Torre and four friends were caught climbing the Williamsburg Bridge. He said that he loves the rush it gives him. NY Post reports, “I just really liked the adrenaline rush — and the fear factor of it,” De La Torre told The Post this week in an exclusive interview.”

It all began after exploring abandoned buildings. After that, he climbed to the top of an empty school building. After that, he kept going higher and higher, posting pics to his Instagram account of his latest adventure. Some weeks, he’d pick three targets.

They weren’t all empty or abandoned buildings, though. It didn’t take Alejandro long to learn how to get past security and pretend he belonged in the building. He says that as soon as he was inside the building, he’d get as high as possible on a staircase.

Then, he’d have to go out of a window or onto the roof. According to Torre, the highest spot on a building usually is higher than the roof, which often leads to him scaling dangerously high buildings with zero safety equipment.

His popular Instagram posts informed his parents about his activities, but he says they couldn’t stop him. Some people flew across the country to scale buildings with him. The social media account helped him find like-minded people that love the thrill, and they formed a community.

According to the NY Post, “His ascents include the top of the 77-story Chrysler Building, the 1,066-foot high Brooklyn Tower, and the 693-foot tall Verrazano Bridge.”

The police don’t feel the same way. The mayor says the lawless antics contribute to social disorder, while Alejandro points out that they aren’t hurting anyone.
