Mark Zuckerberg and Meta have been busy creating their own AI model, and it’s packed with features that many are saying blow ChatGPT out of the water.

The new AI is SAM, short for the Segment Anything Model.

The new AI model has several features that are leaving people fascinated. It’s capable of identifying everything in an image. It can also create videos from text and create more complex images. An example of the AI shows someone typing the word cat, followed by the AI drawing boxes around every cat image in the picture.

The Blaze reports, “The release of the program comes amid AI platforms popping up everywhere, with Microsoft-backed ChatGPT facing backlash in Italy over a privacy breach that revealed users’ private information, causing a temporary suspension of the service.”

The AI can upgrade existing images or create them from the text. The images created from the text can be anything from realistic images to cartoon sketches or even something imagined, such as a couch with wheels. Then, the AI can make the images into a video with text prompts, such as a couch with wheels rolling through the living room.

According to The Blaze, “The SAM model and data set will be available to download under a non-commercial license allowing the AI platform to be used for research purposes only.”

This isn’t the only AI that Meta is working on. The company currently has its significant language AI named LLaMa. Like other large language AIs, it can quickly summarize documents and answer questions.

The company believes that AI will play a valuable role in the Metaverse, a virtual reality world that the company is creating. According to CNBC, “‘In the future, you might be able just to describe the world you want to create and have the large language model generate that world for you,’ Bosworth said in the report. ‘And so it makes things like content creation much more accessible to more people.’”

Meta plans to utilize AI technology on other platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

AI remains a source of controversy. Many companies don’t allow writers to use AI technology to create content, and other industries are cautiously watching the development of AI. What do you think about AI technology? Are we, as a society, taking things too far?
