A report from CNN Politics notes another incident involving a minor and threats he made against his school.

On Wednesday, the 13-year-old son of Rebekah Jones, a former state Health Department employee, was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot up his middle school. According to the warrant issued for the boy’s arrest by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was charged with written or electronic threats to kill, inflict bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. The charges carry a second-degree felony.

Jones was fired from her job for refusing to take state COVID-19 data and manipulate it while employed by the health department. Although Jones has no evidence, she suggested her son was arrested because of a lawsuit she filed in Leon County against the Florida Department of Health and a former supervisor. Jones filed the lawsuit on March 13 under the state whistleblower act to be reinstated in her former position, recoup lost wages, and receive damages for the treatment she incurred while an employee.

In a post on Twitter, Jones said the sheriff’s office had initiated the investigation of her son soon after the lawsuit was filed. She also noted in the tweet her son had done nothing threatening and had sent “just memes” to friends.

Meanwhile, the police investigation turned up a different story after speaking with a few middle school students who attended the same school as the minor. When police officers asked about Jone’s son, they were told the minor had plans for a school shooting and that he had posted threats on Discord and Snapchat. One student told police the minor had confided to her on Discord that he didn’t want to live any longer and wanted to shoot up the school.

Fox News reports an article by the Pensacola News Journal shared comments that the minor posted on social media. The messages said, “I want to shoot up the school” and “If I get a gun, I’m gonna shoot up Holley Navarre Middle School, lol.”

On March 23, CNN reports, the minor told police that he had no intentions of carrying out his threat to shoot up the school. Police documents showed that when police searched the boy’s home, no guns were found. Jones has since removed her son from school, and he is being home-schooled.

CNN has contacted the sheriff’s office for more information.
