A District Attorney in the San Francisco Bay Area, financially supported by left-wing billionaire George Soros, is demanding that a judge who refused a plea deal for a suspect in a string of three killings be disqualified from the case.

In a video message shared on YouTube, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price accused Alameda County Superior Court Judge Mark McCannon of exceeding his judicial mandate and creating a prejudicial atmosphere. Price did not provide any specific examples of Judge McCannon’s wrongdoing.

Price stated, "the judge is supposed to be an impartial referee managing cases that come before him." She added that due to the judge’s inappropriate behavior and prejudicial comments, her office would file a motion to disqualify him from hearing any criminal cases being prosecuted by her office.

Last month, McCannon refused a plea deal negotiated by Price’s office for defendant Delonzo Logwood to plead no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 22-year-old Eric Ford in July 2008. In exchange for Logwood's plea, murder charges against him in the killings of Zaire Washington, 24, and Richard Carter, 30, would be dropped.

Logwood offered an apology during the hearing, but McCannon rejected the plea agreement. The judge said, "You can’t think an apology will make this all better. What are you sorry for if you didn’t do anything?" However, Logwood’s attorney argued that the defendant meant he was sorry for other past criminal activities, including drug activity and fraud, and not the shooting. The trial is scheduled to begin on April 17.

In a video message, Price called for changes in the justice system, but explained that it was not easy to bring changes to the office. She emphasized that there were several rumors but assured the viewers that she would always be honest with them.

She also stated that the evidence in the Delonzo Logwood case could not be discussed publicly, but the charges against him were extensively reviewed to ensure they could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Price emphasized that it would be against the prosecutor's personal code to try the case in the public.

"The time for a change in the justice system is now. To be perfectly frank, it hasn’t been easy to make changes in this office.

"There are a lot of rumors buzzing through this community. Much of it simply is not true. Some people, including reporters, are saying things that are not based on facts," Price continued. "I will always be straight with you. But I also have to let you know there are some details about cases that I just can’t talk about publicly because they are open cases that are still being prosecuted.

"For example, the case involving Delonzo Logwood and two other young men. I can’t talk about the evidence in that case, but I want you to know that we have reviewed the case extensively to make sure that it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. That’s what we are committed to do in every case."

Price filed a motion to disqualify Judge McCannon from the case, arguing that he was prejudiced against the District Attorney's office. McCannon denied this accusation and said that he was not biased in any way, despite disagreeing with the motion. Price did not attend the hearing.

The judge dismissed the motion to remove him from the Logwood case, and Logwood's attorney plans to appeal the decision. The motion to remove Judge McCannon from other criminal cases prosecuted by that office was not addressed.
