U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have reported the capture of convicted sex offenders near the country's southern border who had entered the country unlawfully after being deported.

In three separate incidents, Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio Sector apprehended individuals who were Mexican nationals and had previously been removed from the US. A press release by the agency states that on March 29, Eagle Pass Station agents intercepted Ariel Hugo Fuentes Morales, 34, convicted for indecency with a child sexual contact in San Antonio in 2011.

In a press release from Customs & Border Patrol noted that on "March 29, while conducting line watch operations, Eagle Pass Station agents encountered a group of five people attempting to avoid detection near Eagle Pass.

Record checks revealed that Ariel Hugo Fuentes Morales, 34, a Mexican national, was convicted of indecency with a child sexual contact, in San Antonio, in 2011. Fuentes Morales was sentenced to 10 years confinement and was most recently deported in 2015."

CBP notes that Brackettville Station agents arrested two individuals on April 2, one of whom was convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age in Lexington, South Carolina, in 2022. Another individual caught by Carrizo Springs Station agents on April 3, was convicted of sexual abuse and sexual assault in Arizona in 2022.

This individual received one year and six months confinement and lifetime probation, being most recently deported in 2022. Furthermore, Del Rio Station agents arrested a gang member, Juan Ramon Borja-Vargas, who had previously been convicted of manslaughter in Sacramento, California, in 2006.

Borja-Vargas, a 38-year-old Mexican national and Sur-13 gang member, was sentenced to 16 years of confinement and was most recently deported in 2019. According to CBP, between October 2022 and February 2023, there have been over one million southwest land border encounters.
