According to a report by the Daily Caller, things came to a head this week when Variety released a lengthy report outlining Lemon’s alleged misogyny towards his coworkers and “diva-like” behavior.
The report from Variety came about after an incident this past February when Lemon commented online to Republican Nikki Haley, the 51-year-old presidential candidate, that she was past her “prime.”
Variety also stated in the report that Lemon aimed another remark at one of his producers when he called her “fat” to her face.
Going as far back as 2008, according to Variety, Lemon and his female co-anchor, Kyra Phillips, didn’t have the best working relationship. While the pair worked on CNN’s “Live From” show, Lemon went so far as allegedly tearing apart items on her desk while she was covering an assignment in Iraq.

An anonymous text accompanying the incident read, “Now you’ve crossed the line, and you’re going to pay for it.” The text message was traced back to Lemon by CNN. The repercussion of the incident resulted in Lemon’s removal from the show and reassigned to weekend duty. Phillips had no comment. A CNN spokesperson said, “Don says the alleged incident never occurred and that he was never notified of any investigation. CNN cannot corroborate the alleged events from 15 years ago.”

Lemon also took aim at another CNN personality, Nancy Grace, by mocking her when he was on the air. A person close to the CNN celebrity told Variety Grace “thinks he’s an ass.” She added, “That was the beginning of when you knew that Don was kind of volatile and didn’t say good things about women.”

Lemon didn’t hesitate to cast out his verbal attacks despite the negative atmosphere. During an editorial meeting of over two dozen staff, Lemon went after Soledad O’Brien, who had been given the job of hosting the “Black in America” docuseries that aired in 2008. According to witnesses, during the meeting, Lemon suggested that O’Brien isn’t black. Another colleague stated, “Don always wanted to be front and center on anything high profile, especially anything involving race.”
More negative comments ensued through the years. Currently, CNN has required Lemon to undergo “formal training” while he remains at the helm of the anchors’ desk.
