Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a Democrat, and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, has recently filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission, indicating his intention to challenge President Joe Biden in 2024.

Kennedy's move positions him as one of the few Democrats to contest the presidency, joining Marianne Williamson, who announced her candidacy earlier this year. While Kennedy has not formally announced his bid, he has been fiercely critical of the Biden administration, particularly in its vaccination mandate policy.

Kennedy's potential presidential bid reflects his belief in the importance of not leaving behind the disadvantaged within society. “We can’t advance ourselves as a people by leaving our poorer brothers and sisters behind. The things that define our nation are these communities, and they are based on the Constitution,” Kennedy said.

During a visit to St. Anselm College in March 2021, Kennedy revealed that he was considering running for President, adding that his biggest hurdle, his wife's approval, had been cleared. The pharmaceutical industry and the government's failure to regulate big business were some of the issues he raised when mulling over his presidential run.

Kennedy insisted that the government is responsible for ensuring the provision of affordable medicine and urged a reform of drug regulation. “We pay more for medicine and more for pharmaceuticals. We consume three times more pharmaceutical drugs than other Western nations, and we have the worst health outcomes,” Kennedy said.If Kennedy makes a formal announcement, it is likely that his platforms will bear similarities with those of Marianne Williamson.

Williamson has been critical of the pharmaceutical industry and the Biden administration's alliance with big business. In her campaign kickoff, she emphasized the need to create a vision of justice and love that could override the forces of fear, hatred, and injustice.

According to Newsweek, Williamson's bid for the presidency, though unlikely, has recently shown slight upward momentum in a recent poll, with 10 percent of likely Democratic voters indicating their support for her.

While the President has yet to formally announce his bid for re-election, Kennedy's move sets the stage for what could be an exciting and competitive presidential race for the Democratic Party in 2024.
