Reports indicate that the 25-year-old male suspect jumped over a wall to invade the Cantinho do Bom Pastor day care center, where he attacked the children. The children, aged between 5 and 7 years old, were left with no chance of defense, and four lost their lives. An additional five children sustained injuries. Fortunately, teachers were able to come to the aid of the children, causing the suspect to flee. The man later voluntarily surrendered himself at a police station.
Detective Ronnie Esteves, of the local police department, stated that an official motive for the attack is yet to be uncovered. Furthermore, Esteves confirmed that the suspect appeared to have no connection with the daycare center, which provides preschool education, after-school activities, and daycare services.
