The Daily Beast reports that Democrats are now attempting to ban DeSantis’ book using the same law he signed to ban books containing pornographic or otherwise inappropriate material for children.
Jake Lahut from the Daily Beast reported: “In a clever bit of trolling, Florida Democrats are subjecting DeSantis’ new tome — ‘The Courage To Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival’ — to the rules that he and GOP lawmakers established to weed out books with allegedly inappropriate content on race, sexuality, and gender from school libraries.”
His report continued: “Fentrice Driskell, the minority leader in the Florida House, is leading an effort across 50 counties to see if any of them might review or ban DeSantis’ book based on his law’s vague and unwieldy criteria.”

This move is a political stunt as no school library in the state carries DeSantis’ book, and they certainly do not include it in their academic criteria. It seems that Democrats are merely using this move to draw attention to a law they disagree with.

Raw Story reports that certain aspects of Florida law are broad and do not specifically label what is “inappropriate” for children. Therefore, some are highly concerned that this law may be applied to books that they would not like to see banned from school shelves at this time.

One school library is so concerned about the implications of the law that it empties its entire library of books to avoid running afoul of the law. Governor DeSantis has repeatedly stated that the empty library is a hoax, but there are numerous photos and videos of this specific library.
The report by the Daily Beast stated: “Few policy projects have been more central to DeSantis’ brand as an education culture warrior than HB 1467, making it a natural target for Florida Democrats,” and “Particularly with the drop in Democratic turnout that helped DeSantis cruise to re-election, Driskell said the onus is on Florida Democrats to not rely solely on attacking the Florida governor ... Driskell added that polling shows parents are largely not fans of government interventions such as book banning, but the rest of the country hasn’t had to deal with a law like DeSantis’.”
Democrats will still do everything in their power to make a point about what DeSantis has done by signing this law into being in Florida.
