Fox News reports things got “icy” in Alaska when a journalist working on a story about political campaign signs being vandalized was assaulted while on the job.

According to a report by Yahoo News, the journalist works for the Anchorage Daily News.

The ADN report noted campaigning in a municipal election was at its peak and due to wind up on Tuesday. Loren Holmes, a photographer on assignment, was the victim of the assault.

Holmes had made a previous arrangement to meet an individual from a political consulting firm for the purpose of taking photographs. The meeting was to take place on Friday at a location where political signs had been vandalized.

Yahoo! news report went on to say when he arrived at the site, a man he had seen walking towards the signs began working around the area. When Holmes approached and asked if he was from the consulting group, the man said he was but would not identify himself.

The unidentified man said, “If you take my picture, I will take your camera” if Holmes attempted to take his picture, according to the Yahoo! news report.

Holmes, who had a prearranged meeting scheduled, took his phone out to document the incident but tripped and fell backward. The man took advantage of the situation by jumping on him and holding the photographer down to the ground. The man eventually got the phone and stepped away from Holmes.

Keeping his cool, Holmes was quick to cover the situation. The photographer immediately used his smartwatch to call 911 and report the assault. The man took the opportunity to run before the police arrived, tossing the phone in the snow along the way. Holmes took a picture of the fleeing man with his camera.

Police responded to the incident. Dennis Lasley, the police department’s dispatch supervisor, told The Associated Press on Sunday the department did not have additional details or whether any arrests were made.

Not long after the attack, the person with the prearranged meeting with Holmes arrived on the scene and told Holmes the attacker was not affiliated with the consulting firm.

The journalist used his smartwatch to ping his phone, which he found not far away in the snow.

Holmes only suffered an abrasion on the one hand, most likely due to tripping and falling. He sustained no other injuries.
