Officials from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) have released an update on the devastating attack that occurred on Monday, March 27, at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.

The update disclosed that the shooter, Audrey Hale, who identified as transgender, had been planning the attack for several months. MNPD stated that Hale, acting alone, took the lives of three children and three adults, firing 152 rounds from the time the shooter entered the school until the moment Hale was fatally shot by police. Hale's writings, recovered from the shooter's vehicle and bedroom, reveal "planning over a period of months to commit mass murder at The Covenant School." MNPD also noted that Hale "considered the actions of other mass murderers."

The station advised that Hale's motive remains unknown, and the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, based in Quantico, Virginia, is assisting local authorities in the ongoing investigation. It was revealed that Hale was aware of the actions of past mass murderers.

The investigation has shown that Hale used 152 rounds in the attack, 126 of which were 5.56 rifle rounds and 26 of which were nine-millimeter rounds. The police officers involved in the incident have been identified as Rex Engelbert and Michael Collazo, who fired four rounds each. Hale's family, who believed that the shooter had sold their one firearm, were shocked to learn that Hale had at least seven hidden firearms at home. Moreover, Hale reportedly received treatment for an emotional disorder not specified, and that the shooter had "high-functioning autism."
