He checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital on February 15 for depression. He was recently released and said that his depression is in remission.
Fetterman is now back home and says he’s happy to be there. He says he’s glad that the people of Pennsylvania are always there for him, and he plans to be there for Pennsylvania.

Fetterman suffered a stroke last May in the middle of his fight for the Senate. Because of the stroke, he developed an auditory processing disorder. However, for the rest of the campaign, his team and doctors claimed that he had no restrictions and was capable of holding office.

Per Fox News, “Fetterman squared off in only one debate with his opponent, Republican Mehmet Oz, on October 25 and struggled to communicate on multiple occasions effectively and used closed captioning due to limited auditory processing capability.”

Before checking himself into the hospital, staff reported that he wasn’t behaving like usual. They said he didn’t banter with aides like usual and was withdrawn. On top of that, he also wasn’t interested in ordinary day-to-day things, such as eating and talking with other people. Instead, he was very withdrawn. Those are signs of depression.
While he was said to be receiving briefs, this has undoubtedly impacted his performance as a Senator. Per Fox News, “Fetterman has missed 53 of the 64 Senate roll call votes during February and March due to being hospitalized.”
