Dennis Quaid's New Documentary Has People Shaking In Their Boots...

It details what can happen in the event of a power grid failure and has many people alarmed. He says it could send the United States back to the late 1800s.

Fox News reports, “Quaid joined “Jesse Watters Primetime” to discuss the documentary and explore the possibility of what he said could be caused by anything from terrestrial attacks on power stations to a Chinese balloon carrying an incendiary payload over U.S. airspace.”

During the interview, Watters points out how the documentary scared him as he played clips from the movie. Throughout the documentary, Quaid explains how many people don’t realize the importance of the grid in daily life. He points out the need for electricity to fuel cars and the trucks delivering food and the necessity of gas to heat homes.

According to Fox News, “On “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Quaid added there have already been several attacks and plots against U.S. substations, including one recent situation where two suspects plotted sequential attacks on Baltimore-area substations they hoped would grind Charm City to a halt.”

Quaid pointed out one of the biggest outages was caused in New York, surrounding areas, and Canada when a storm resulted in multiple tree limbs coming into contact with wires. A small event, but others could take out the power grid for at least a month.

Quaid further points out this is a severe problem but fixable. According to Quaid, no one wants to foot the bill. Utility companies don’t want to spend the billions it would take to upgrade the power grid. Likewise, Congress doesn’t seem concerned about it. They are ready to provide funding to Ukraine but won’t include the power grid in the federal budget.

There are several ways that the power grid could go down. One is the Carrington Event, named after British astronomer Richard Carrington. According to Blog Critics, “Telegraph systems worldwide began to fail. Telegraph operators received electric shocks as sparks flew from telegraph machinery, starting fires, causing contacts to melt, and damaging wires.”

An EMP attack is another likely cause, as the electro-magnetic pulse would incapacitate parts of the grid.

Hacking into the computers by hostile powers to control the grid is a third option for bringing the grid down.

The filmmakers responsible for the documentary encourage pressure on legislators. They suggest organizing letter-writing campaigns and starting petitions. The film will be available online in August.
