A stunning development in the case of two Iowa teens accused of murdering their Spanish teacher over a bad grade was revealed in court Wednesday.

Jeremy Goodale has agreed to testify against his former friend Willard Miller, although the details of any plea deal remain unclear, the Des Moines Register reported. Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding announced that Goodale had "turned state's evidence and is listed as a witness against Miller," meaning his lawyers should no longer make assumptions on behalf of Goodale.

The 17-year-olds are charged with killing Nohema Graber, 66, who had been teaching at Fairfield High School since 2012. Prosecutors allege the pair ambushed Graber during her daily walk in Chautauqua Park, dragging her into the woods and beating her to death with a baseball bat. Her body was found the next day, concealed under a tarp, a wheelbarrow, and railroad ties.

Miller is due to stand trial on April 21, and Goodale in May. Wednesday's hearing was regarding a motion by Miller to suppress evidence and interviews with investigators, an appeal of which is currently before the Iowa Supreme Court.

According to the Des Moines Register, the agreement between Goodale and prosecutors is likely to be a major blow against Miller in the upcoming trials. They will be tried as adults.
