According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Orozco had been transporting two male passengers when they stopped at a 7-Eleven. The trio got into a physical altercation in the parking lot, and one of the passengers opened fire, hitting Orozco in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
One of the suspects ran on the foot while the other stole the black Honda Accord Orozco was driving. It was later found abandoned close to the crime scene. The two suspects remain at large, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information to contact Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

The couple had been married for 10 years, having first fallen in love in high school. Orozco had completed three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan during his time in the Marines, and had been an Uber driver for four years to care for their children during Medina's days as a nurse.
Uber has banned the rider's account and is working with the police on the investigation. The company's statement read, “Our hearts are with Mr. Orozco Figueroa’s family as they cope with this unfathomable tragedy, and we have reached out to offer our condolences.” 7-Eleven is also assisting with the investigation. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to provide financial support to Orozco's family, with a goal of $20,000, but it has currently raised over $70,000.
