TikTok is a powerful propaganda tool for the Chinese government and should be banned.

At least, this is true according to The Daily Caller report of a panelist on Bill Maher’s Real Time with Bill Maher show. That panelist even said that the social media app is a “defense threat” to the United States and that we all need to recognize its power to shape public viewpoints and more.

“Imagine a brain jack inserted into the neural network of two-thirds of our youth under the age of 25, who spend more time on TikTok than every other media source combined,” said Scott Galloway, a professor of marketing at New York University.

He then continued by saying: “And then imagine how easy it would be to put your thumb on the scale of anti-American content and recognize that they would be stupid not to elegantly, insidiously, covertly, raise a generation of American civil, nonprofit, military, government leaders, day by day, minute by minute, who just feel a little shittier about America.”

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testified at a Thursday House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing and defended the company against all allegations put against it. He suggested that the company is innocent of what its accusers’ claim and has not done even a fraction of the claimed harm. On top of that, he says that TikTok does not share American data with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The TikTok CEO had to face several questions from members of Congress related to the actions or inaction of TikTok regarding privacy and data security. It was the role of Chew to try to keep the company as protected as possible from the accusations against it. Some suggest it won’t be enough as a bi-partisan push exists to change how TikTok operates in the United States today.

The company boasts of having more than 150 million Americans signed up for the service already, which is likely to keep growing as more and more people learn about the app. However, this is the biggest concern for those trying to keep the national security of the United States as the foremost priority. That should be recognized by anyone, no matter their position on the TikTok controversy. There is a lot to be concerned with related to this app in the future, and many will still be thinking about this for a long time.
