The extent of the relationship between TikTok and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been shown in shocking detail in recent testimony to Congress.

The Free Beacon reports that TikTok CEO Shou Chew admitted that the company shares American data with the CCP parent company that owns TikTok.

Employees who work for ByteDance’s Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, can access American data, according to testimony offered by Chew when he spoke at a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing. This will continue to be the case until the completion of Project Texas, a project that will involve storing American data within American borders, according to the TikTok CEO.

Chew said: “Not after Project Texas. This is not allowed.”

The Free Beacon reports that these details came as Congress looks at a potential ban on TikTok throughout the United States. The fact that data can quickly be passed on to the Chinese Communist Party is of particular concern to Congress now. They consider this a possibility because they feel that TikTok poses a real and present danger to the American public and the United States national security.

TikTok has bragged that it has approximately 150 million American users already, and that number is still growing by the day. This represents nearly half of the United States population, meaning that TikTok can tap into mountains of data about the American public.

Democrat Frank Pallone (NJ) claimed that the CCP would influence TikTok regardless of whether they complete their Project Texas. Pallone said: “I do not find what you suggested with Project Texas ... will be acceptable to me.”

Chew attempted to downplay concerns about the American data created on TikTok. He insisted that an American company stored “American data” on American soil. This is the kind of promise he would like to make to try to calm fears about how TikTok stores data across its American users.

Despite these assurances, the Wall Street Journal reports that the CCP has resisted all attempts to sell any portion of the company to an American owner. They are pushing hard against the idea of giving up the wildly successful app they have created for the world, and they will continue to fight this battle until the threats of an outright ban become so loud that they cannot resist them any longer.
